Die rote Rebsorte stammt aus Frankreich. Synonyme sind Mauvais Grain, Mauvais Plant, Pinot à Feuilles Ecaillées, Pinot Aigret, Pinot de Volnay, Pinot Dru und Plant Dru. Es handelt sich um eine Mutation von Pinot Noir. Angeblich wurde sie früher im Elsass angebaut.
